Investing in BC's Future: Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Building Technologies
Okanagan College’s Penticton campus is set to become home to one of the region’s most environmentally responsible and sustainable facilities, the Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Building Technologies and Renewable Energy Conservation. An investment of $23 million from the Federal and Provincial governments and $5 million from Okanagan College will fund construction of the new facility.
The Centre is designed to be a living building, whereby students can observe and interact with the latest green technologies and innovative practices. The mechanics of the building will be observable, allowing students to participate in the metering and monitoring of the building’s systems.
The 7,085-square metre, two-storey multi-purpose facility will provide expanded access for an additional 500 full-time students. The building will accommodate expanded trades and technology training and professional development, focused on sustainable (green) building technologies and processes and on the use of alternative and renewable energy sources.
The Centre of Excellence scheduled to complete in March 2011, is just one example of how BC Colleges are investing in BC's future. To read more about Okanagan College's new Centre of Excellence, click
