Coast Mountain College
Coast Mountain College (CMTN) is an accredited post-secondary institution that serves the rich and diverse communities of the beautiful Northwest Region of British Columbia. Established in 1975 in Terrace, CMTN has five regional campuses serving 34 communities. Campuses are located in Terrace, Smithers, Prince Rupert, Hazelton, and Kay ‘Llnagaay (Skidigate). CMTN focuses on experiential place-based learning through exciting field schools and other hands-on learning opportunities. The College is home to the Freda Diesing School of Northwest Coast Art and offers certificate, diploma, and associate degree programs; college access programs; university credit programs; and trades foundation and apprenticeship programs.

- The Freda Diesing School of Northwest Coast Art brings Indigenous nations together in the pursuit of higher education and sets new standards for aspiring Indigenous artists. It is the only school of its kind in Canada, focusing on traditional First Nations Pacific Northwest Coast art. Learn more
- Waap Galts’ap (Community House), the traditional longhouse on the CMTN campus, is a historic first for a post-secondary institution in Canada. Featuring world-class art and carvings produced by instructors and graduates of the Freda Diesing School, the longhouse is a cultural safe space and communal gathering place for inclusion, ceremony, stories, and intercultural understanding. - Coast Mountain College offers a selection of exciting spring and summer field schools each year that combine a full semester of learning and place-based experiences into just a few weeks. On a field school expedition, you'll learn about the incredible history, culture and environment of Northwestern BC, all while exploring some of the most spectacular landscapes on earth. - Our Terrace campus offers student housing in Wii Gyemsiga Siwlilaawksat (where learners are content or comfortable). This new building, opened in 2021, includes 108 student rooms, a hotel suite, an elder’s suite, a large cultural space, study collaboration areas, a computer lab, an e-sports room, several shared kitchens, and a bike storage area. Space is limited, so we recommend submitting your housing application as soon as you apply to CMTN. Learn more
