BC Colleges Day Celebrates Learning and Student Success
“February 26, 2019 is B.C. Colleges Day, a time to celebrate learning and student success while also looking to the future,” said John Bowman, Chair of B.C. Colleges and president of North Island College. “B.C.’s colleges are sharply focused on the future as we respond to economic change to develop the innovative and creative thinkers our emerging economy needs.”
“Through digitized classrooms, simulation labs, virtual reality and mobile classrooms we are delivering a flexible learning environment across B.C.s’ communities,” said Bowman. “Our inclusive approach is reducing barriers to higher education sometimes felt by Indigenous peoples, new Canadians, women and minorities. By welcoming them to higher education we enable them to prepare for a job market that desperately needs talent.”
Today’s B.C. Colleges Day celebration will showcase success stories at a lunch time ceremony at the B.C. Legislature. Students from Camosun College will demonstrate a commercial success made possible through an innovative college partnership with a local company. They will be joined by Advanced Education, Skills and Training Minister Melanie Mark and Jobs, Trades and Technology Minister Bruce Ralston as well as college Presidents.
