College of the Rockies Gains Eligibility for Research Funds

College of the Rockies Gains Eligibility for Research Funds

submitted: Monday, December 02, 2013

College of the Rockies recently met all of the requirements for eligibility for funding research initiatives through the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC).

The SSHRC of Canada is a federal research funding agency that promotes and supports post secondary-based research and training in the humanities and social sciences.

College of the Rockies President and CEO David Walls explains, “SSHRC-supported research in the social sciences and humanities can help us engage in community based applied research projects related to social, cultural, environmental, economic and wellness issues.  We are very pleased to have obtained eligibility for funding through the Council.”

The benefits of SSHRC eligibility could very well be felt beyond the College as the prospect of working with other community groups is explored.

“Obtaining eligibility opens the College to numerous applied research funding opportunities as well as to the potential of creating partnerships with non-profit and community organizations who lack access to these funds,” says Doug McLachlan, College of the Rockies VP Education.  “Collaborations between the social sector and the College will help smaller organizations undertake applied research to enhance the great work they are already doing.”
