Langara to host 2014 Vancouver District Science Fair

Vancouver, BC – Langara College’s Math and Science Division will host over 200 students at the 2014 Vancouver District Science Fair on Friday, March 7.
The Vancouver District Science Fair is a district-wide event that students enrolled in grades 7-12 at all Vancouver public schools are invited to participate.
“We are happy to partner with the Vancouver School Board to support budding scientists at work,” says Gerda Krause, Langara Division Chair of Math and Sciences. “Our faculty has a great time engaging the students at the event, from presenting workshops on 3D printing to showing off chemistry in a magic show.
The fair is an opportunity for students to work hands-on with science experiments of their choosing. Last year’s exhibition included projects such as creating bacterial cultures from public surfaces and building Tesla coils.
“Students participating in the fair are excited to show off what they have learned about science,” says Jeanne Yu, teacher and fair organizer. “We had one of our biggest fairs last year at Langara, and we anticipate an even higher participation level this year.”
The top 85 projects presented at the fair will be selected to represent Vancouver at the Greater Vancouver Regional Science Fair in April.

The Vancouver District Science will be held in the main gymnasium at Langara College on Friday, March 7, 4-9 pm. For more information about the event, visit the VDSF website.
