Northern Lights College Farm Residence, Ready for Residents
NLC has a new kind of O.K. Corral for students. In addition to campus housing at Northern Lights College, rodeo team athletes can also reside on the College Farm located directly across from the Dawson Creek Transfer Station East on Hwy 49.
Approximately 2 years ago students enrolled in residential construction courses re-modeled the existing house on the property to accommodate 7 dorm-like rooms and common area (living room, kitchen.) Campus security regularly patrols the area.
The farmhouse is co-ed where rodeo team students can live, and practice on the farm with their competition horses. In addition to the farm, there are previous buildings being utilized for hay storage and more. Much development on the farm has occurred with more to complete.
A new horse barn has been built, also by residential construction students anticipated to be completed by end of October 2019.
The newest addition to the farm is an outdoor arena to be used for practices and other events. It is important for students to have this option while living on the farm so that there is less time spent on the road traveling, especially over the winter months.
For practices throughout the year, the team will also utilize local arena grounds at the Lakota Centre and the DC Exhibition Association grounds.
