Northwest Community College and BCIT ink guaranteed admission transfer agreement for students
Northwest Community College (NWCC) and the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) are partnering on a new student transfer agreement that offers NWCC Criminology students guaranteed admission into BCIT’s Forensics department.
“This is an exciting opportunity for students to have a guaranteed pathway into the study of Forensic Sciences, while doing their first two years closer to home at NWCC,” says Justin Kohlman, VP Education, Students and International. “This builds on our plan to establish more guaranteed pathways for NWCC students to other post-secondary institutes both in BC, the rest of Canada and internationally.”
Students who successfully complete the Criminology Diploma at NWCC, including the appropriate elective courses in Biology and Chemistry, and who obtain a minimum GPA of 2.0 prior to entering BCIT, are eligible to transfer into the third year of the Bachelor of Technology in Forensic Sciences at BCIT.
Students who complete the Criminology Diploma at NWCC and take the appropriate bridging courses (GIS and Computer Database Applications), and who obtain a minimum GPA of 2.0 prior to entering BCIT are eligible to transfer into the third year of the Bachelor of Technology in Crime and Intelligence Analysis.
The announcement was made November 19 at the Terrace campus at a special community event hosted by NWCC Criminology Instructor Michael Brandt with BCIT Forensics instructor Jason Moore. The event included special guests such as Terrace RCMP Forensics officers and other NWCC faculty discussing the many methods used to investigate crimes.
