Northwest Community College offers new scholarships to assist students from Qinhuangdao, China

Terrace, BC and Qinhuangdao, China - Two new scholarships are being offered to students from Qinhuangdao, China. The $1,000 entrance scholarships, to be made available to international students from the city of Qinhuangdao, are aimed at giving students enrolling in courses at Northwest Community College some financial support as they get settled in the community.

“Our goal with these scholarships is to provide support for students from Qinhuangdao in pursuing their studies in northwestern BC,” says Ken Burt, President of Northwest Community College. “We know that international students help us build capacity in our scholastic offerings and contribute meaningfully to the student experience on campus.”

The development of the scholarships builds on the partnership that the City of Terrace has been growing with the community of Qinhuangdao. The City signed a Friendly Exchange agreement in 2015 which outlines common goals to promote understanding and cooperation in the areas of education, culture, sport, economy and trade to promote common development and prosperity.

“We are delighted to see institutions such as Northwest Community College strengthening the partnerships we have been building with Qinhuangdao,” says Terrace’s Mayor, Carol Leclerc. “Welcoming international students to our community is one more way that we build cross-cultural relationships and have an opportunity to showcase the opportunities our region can offer.”

The announcement was made at the Qinhuangdao Foreign, Overseas Chinese Affairs & Port Office today as part of NWCC’s participation at the China Education Expo. Northwest Community College’s Director of International, Derek Lemieux is in China to make the announcement.
