Nursing Chair Re-Elected to National Board

Vancouver, BC – Janine Lennox, Department Chair of the Langara School of Nursing, has been re-elected to the Board of the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing (CASN), Canada’s national organization for promoting excellence in nursing education and scholarship. This is Janine’s second term on the board.

Originally elected in 2012, Janine has worked on board committees overseeing conference planning, advocacy, and developing guiding principles for baccalaureate nursing education. She has been praised by the CASN for her extensive contributions in sharing information regarding the change in the nursing licensing exam to the NCLEX. Janine was nominated by Nursing Education Council of BC (NECBC) Chair Suzanne Campbell, Director of the School of Nursing at UBC.

“It is an honour to represent nursing education in the west, especially coming from a Community College,” says Janine. “This group is the voice of nursing education in Canada - we need to think about our political voice in promoting nursing education, to ensure that we are connecting with the Ministry.”

Every School of Nursing program is a member of the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing, whose board members serve for two year-terms. As Department Chair of one of the few Schools of Nursing that grants a baccalaureate degree independently, Janine is in a unique position. Due to differences in provincial legislation, nursing programs in other provinces may be required to be associated with a university.

“I’d like to think I’ve brought something to the group,” Janine added about her appointment. “It’s been a real privilege to represent the western region and Langara College in this way.”
