Selkirk College Gala Offers Glimpse into Bright Futures
The annual Selkirk College Gala is a wonderfuly opportunity for supporters of inspiring regional post-secondary to spend an evening full of terrific food, service and live entertainment all in the name of bolstering learning for current and future students.
Selkirk College students are inviting the community to a memorable evening of culinary delights, outstanding service and spirited musical performance at Gala 2018 on Nelson’s Tenth Street Campus.
With a theme of Bold & Bright, learners in the Professional Cook Training Program, Resort & Hotel Management Program and Contemporary Music & Technology Program come together to showcase their skills at the annual evening that raises funds for student awards and activities. Taking place this year on November 24 at the Mary Hall banquet room, Gala 2018 is a chance for community members to support post-secondary education across the West Kootenay and Boundary region.
“The post-secondary journey is one requiring both confidence and courage in pursuit of valuable knowledge and skills,” says Selkirk College’s Advancement Coordinator Stephanie Gobin. “That’s why we chose the theme Bold & Bright for this year’s event. To be bold is to take on challenges and risks with enthusiasm that ensures success. The ultimate outcome is a bright future full of opportunity that creates stronger communities.”
A signature community event that has brought supporters of the college together for decades, the gala is a semi-formal evening featuring a multitude of hors d’oeuvres, a tantalizing three-course dinner, and delightful live music. Driven by the students currently building knowledge and skills in their individual programs, the event helps provide experiential learning for those preparing to embark on exciting careers.
“The students and faculty work so hard to put on this special evening,” says Gobin. “Though it’s important for their educational outcomes, the most magical part of the evening is just how much enthusiasm the students bring to their tasks. From transforming Mary Hall into an elegant venue to the detailed menu items they prepare to the hours of rehearsal for the musical performance, guests can expect a night that exceeds their expectations.”
The popular silent auction and live auction portion of the evening raises money for a variety of supports that enhance the student experience. This year’s primary recipient of funds will be the Selkirk College Saints hockey program and the student-athletes who represent the region across the province during the season.
