VCC esthetics instructor brings expertise to WorldSkills competition

There simply no glossing over it. A deep passion for all-things-esthetics is in Lucy Griffith’s makeup (pun intended).

Griffith, an instructor in Vancouver Community College’s skin and body therapy program, is headed to Leipzig, Germany in July for WorldSkills International, a global competition that features the talents of post-secondary students from 56 countries in more than 45 vocations, including esthetics.

“This is a chance for VCC to get noticed on the world stage,” Griffith says, “an opportunity to show our passion and dedication to trades training.”

As a delegate, Griffith will be assisting Team Canada -- including the esthetics gold medal winner from Quebec -- and acting as an ambassador for Canada along with several colleagues in the Canadian esthetics industry. The competition runs July 2-8.

And we can’t think of a better person to be the face of such a dynamic and growing industry.

Griffith spent almost three years lobbying Skills BC to add the esthetics category to its annual trades competition. Esthetics was finally included as a pilot in 2012 and officially launched this year.

And in 2000, Griffith competed at Skills U.K. as an esthetics student.

“I’ll be working with and learning from the best of the best from all over the world. I hope to learn, be inspired and then inspire some of my future students when I come back to Vancouver.”
