As we know, skilled tradespeople are in demand. Over the next 10 years, most skilled trades expect between 2,000 and 3,000 jobs openings. Surpassing even those impressive numbers are Carpenter (8,440 jobs) and Automotive Service Technician (5,120 jobs).

Approximately 100 students and 20 employers participated in Coast Mountain College’s (CMTN) recent career fair on March 19. There was something for everyone, with representatives from industries including finance, construction, law enforcement, social services, health, mining, environmental consulting, and more.

The Camosun College Enactus team took first place at the regional competition in Calgary on March 14 and 15, 2024. The social enterprise team wowed the judges in the Alumni Innovation and Impact Challenge category with their socially relevant meal kit project designed to help tackle food insecurity on campus.

This fair is organized by the College and Kootenay Employment Services.

Pursuing a skilled trade can lead to a rewarding career, full of growth, success and leadership opportunities. This is the message that Highstreet, a Kelowna-based real estate and development company, wants to share with students. Highstreet has donated $1 million to Okanagan College’s Trades and Apprenticeship programs. This gift will provide financial support to students starting an entry-level trades program. Thirteen annual bursaries of $6,500 will cover the full tuition costs with room for additional student expenses, such as textbooks or tools.
