A Fulfilling Career Thanks to VCC
If you’re naturally friendly, super-organized, and love meeting new people, an administrative career in the dental care industry might be perfect for you.
“At Vancouver Community College, I learned the necessary skills to be an effective administrator and front end representative in a dental office,” says Deepti Saini, graduate of VCC’s five-month, full-time dental reception coordinator program. “And it was because of VCC, I got a job after my very first interview.”
When Saini moved to Canada from Malaysia, she had experience abroad in the dental industry, so the full-time coordinator program was a clear choice. Now, she works four days per week at an orthodontic clinic answering phones, scheduling appointments, taking payments, helping clients with insurance forms, and managing patient charts.
“At our office, patients come from diverse backgrounds, so I enjoy talking to them and making them feel comfortable,” she adds. Developing strong communication skills is an important part of the curriculum, as well as learning dental terminology and how to keep the office running smoothly.
And at VCC, learning is a hands-on experience. Students in dental care programs train at the Downtown campus dental clinic, offering quality, low-cost services to eligible public clients.
What else students learn:
- Legalities and ethics in dental practice
- Emergency procedures and health issues
- Managing accounts and finances
- Organizational skills and computer software
VCC’s dental reception coordinator program accepts new students in January and September. Attend an information session or apply online.
