Colin Ewart to retire as President of BC Colleges in early 2025
“It has been a tremendous pleasure and privilege to lead BC Colleges in our collective efforts for this vital sector,” Colin said. “I’m incredibly proud of everything BC Colleges and our member institutions continue to achieve. We have made a real difference for learners across the province and for the future of British Columbia’s economy.”
Colin has served as President of BC Colleges for over 9 years. During his tenure, he established BC Colleges as a recognized and credible voice with government and industry, influencing public policy, fostering partnerships and innovation, and securing investments that continue to benefit college education throughout British Columbia.
Among his major achievements was spearheading strategic advocacy campaigns that raised awareness of the skills shortage and skills mismatch challenges affecting British Columbia’s economy, while highlighting the solutions and impact provided by colleges. He also led initiatives to enhance collaboration among colleges within British Columbia, as well as on national and international levels.
Significant public policy achievements during his tenure included securing funding for student housing, cooperative education, and applied research support for colleges, as well as new funding commitments for micro-credentials and employer-focused skills training.
Paul Vogt, the President of the College of the Rockies and Chair of BC Colleges, noted that Colin’s upcoming retirement is well deserved after many years of successful leadership.
“Colin has been a trusted and highly effective leader, and we are deeply grateful for everything he has done for our colleges and our learners,” Vogt said. “We will greatly miss his strategic counsel and critical analysis, but knowing Colin I am sure that he will find new ways to apply his skills and experience into new challenges. We wish him the very best on those adventures and appreciate his ongoing support as we search for his successor.”
