A 7.5 foot blimp will be flying around the room, controlled by an android smart phone. Another smart phone will be controlling a blast of sounds created by an analog tube guitar effects module.

These are just two of the student projects on display at the Electronics and Computer Engineering Technology Capstone Symposium at Camosun's Interurban campus, Tuesday, December 4, 2012.

Five student teams have spent the past three months developing and perfecting their projects—the final assignment before graduation. The projects will be on display and the students will be available to explain the real-world applications for their inventions.

The public is invited to attend the symposium. Admission is free.

The five projects include:

  • Nautical ROVer: is an underwater ROV (remotely operated vehicle) camera system with telemetry. This project it is an attempt to take something that is ormally very expensive and make it an affordable and accessible item to the average consumer.
  • Ascendant Solutions: This is a 7.5 foot blimp controlled by an Android smart phone, with live streaming video back to the phone. This would be great for taking video of a sports event or for aerial photographs.
  • Digi Tubers: A pure analog tube guitar effects module that is controlled from an Android smart phone.
  • Renew Your Life: A renewable energy project designed to control a micro hydro system and photo voltaic system via the internet.
  • Webscope: An internet connected oscilloscope, spectrum and logic analyzer controlled through the internet.
