Northern Lights College AHCOTE Students Wrap First School Placement
With the arrival of spring break, AHCOTE students have completed their first school placement.
The Alaska Highway Consortium on Teacher Education (AHCOTE) is a joint teacher education program offered by Simon Fraser University (SFU), Northern Lights College (NLC), School Districts 59, 60, 81, and local teacher associations.
The AHCOTE program has existed at NLC for nearly three decades, and hundreds of program graduates now work in school districts across the region and beyond.
Seventeen AHCOTE students were in several schools in School Districts 59 and 60 for the last four weeks, including Crescent Park Elementary, Tremblay Elementary, Anne Roberts Young Elementary, Margaret Ma Murray Community School, Duncan Cran Elementary, Taylor Elementary, and North Peace Secondary.
Once the spring break is wrapped, they will return to NLC for more in-class, university-level coursework until September, when they will be sent back out to schools to do their certifying practicum. They will graduate from AHCOTE in December.
AHCOTE is a partnership between NLC, SFU, and School Districts 59, 60, and 81. Students complete their teaching certification without leaving northern BC.
