Northwest Community College: Coastal Pathways Partnership illustrates value of industry collaboration benefiting communities
Northwest Community College, Ridley Terminals Inc. and School District No. 52 to deliver training
Prince Rupert – Today representatives from Ridley Terminals Inc., School District No. 52 and Northwest Community College (NWCC) signed a partnership agreement aimed at providing skills training initiatives and projects that benefit the Northern Coastal region. The partnership will respond to the needs and aspirations of local residents for long-term employment to support economic growth in the region.
The five-year Coastal Pathways Partnership will provide an investment of $350,000 towards delivering skills training specifically targeting the needs of this region.
Principles guiding this agreement include early exposure to training and employment opportunities for high school students; working with industry to enhance the learning environment for all students; and providing trades training that will give residents long-term employment in the region.
“Most important about this partnership is the opportunity to provide pathways to successful futures for learners as a direct result of active collaboration between two educational institutions and a major employer in the region,” said NWCC Western Regional Director Larry White.
”The long-term goal of the school district is to ensure each student successfully completes their educational program with a sense of hope, purpose and control,’” said School District No. 53 Board Chair Tina Last. “This partnership opens up exciting new opportunities for our students to find high-paying trades jobs in our region.”
“This is just the kind of agreement we need to forge in this community,” said Michelle Bryant, Corporate Affairs Manager with Ridley Terminals Inc. “We are pleased to support capacity for long-term employment in the community and support this significant investment by all the partners with local resources. This is a great example of local industry investing in the communities where we operate.”
