Vancouver Community College Students Claim 27 Medals at Skills BC Competitions

Vancouver Community College (VCC) is proud to share that 27 students claimed medal finishes at the 31st annual Skills Canada BC provincial competition held at the Tradex centre in Abbotsford on Wednesday, April 16. Both the VCC autobody repair (secondary) and baking (secondary) categories swept the podium.

Congratulations to the 11 gold medallists who move on to the Skills Canada national competitions happening in Regina, Sask. on May 29 and May 30 at the Regina Exhibition Association Limited District. Well done to all 44 VCC students who challenged themselves under pressure at the provincial level!

"We are incredibly proud of our students who trained for weeks to prepare for the competition," says Elaine Smith, instructional assistant of VCC's Graphic Design program. "Their success is a testament to the skills they've developed and the hard work they've put in. Designing under pressure is no easy feat, but they truly shone – always smiling, always delivering.

"We'll be cheering Cynthia on as she prepares for the national competition," adds Smith, who notes that Cynthia Nguyen previously won gold in the 2024 provincial skills competition and claimed bronze in last year's national skills competition. With these past competitions under her belt, Cynthia will be one to watch for at the next round of competitions.

Skills Canada National Competition is the only national, multi-trade and technology competition for students and apprentices in over 40 skilled trades categories in the country. Similar to the provincial competition, exhibitors at nationals will have interactive booths and activities to engage with young and aspiring trade students.
