Camosun College Student Paves His Path to Success
At Camosun College, Danylo Humeniuk found the foundational support that empowered him to transfer to the University of Victoria and pursue his passion in psychology and computer science.
When Danylo moved from Ukraine to Victoria, he wasn’t just looking for a place to study, he was looking for a place to belong. With relatives here to support him and the city’s natural beauty and peaceful atmosphere calling his name, Victoria felt like the right place to start his academic journey.
Danylo was always deeply curious about human behaviour and the inner workings of the mind and enrolling in Camosun’s Associate of Arts Degree, Psychology program was a natural choice.
That clarity inspired him to transfer to University of Victoria, where he’s now pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Computer Science combined major.
Not every moment was easy. Adjusting to Canada’s teaching style and overall culture took time, but Danylo kept an open mind. He observed his classmates, built friendships, and immersed himself in the culture. He recalls biology labs as one of his most memorable experiences.
“They were hands-on and engaging, and really connected theory to practice,” says Danylo.
Camosun’s smaller, tight-knit environment was a big part of what made Danylo’s experience so impactful.
“It truly felt like a family. The International Advisors were amazing,” recalls Danylo. “They were incredibly helpful with study permit and visa questions, which can be quite stressful to navigate alone.”
Looking back, Danylo sees Camosun as the perfect launchpad. A place that gave him both a strong academic foundation and the confidence to thrive in university.
