When two brothers left their small farming community in India to study at Northern Lights College, it would be a truly life-changing experience.

At a ceremony held on campus today, Langara College became the first college in British Columbia to sign on to the Okanagan Charter. The Charter calls on post-secondary institutions to embed health into all aspects of campus culture for students, staff, and faculty. Over 20 universities and colleges across Canada have signed the Charter to promote action and collaboration, locally and globally.

Pacific Rim Magazine (PRM), a print and online publication by Langara College Publishing program students, has won two prestigious CMA Pinnacle Awards at the 2017-2018 ACP/CMA National College Media Convention in Louisville, Kentucky.

The finalists for National Philanthropy Day (November 16) in Victoria include a number of people with strong connections to Camosun, demonstrating the spirit of generosity surrounding the college.

Four College of the Rockies trades students received a boost to their education as the first recipients of the newly-created Teck Scholarships.  The $2,000 scholarships were created following Teck’s $1 million donation to the College this past June. In addition to supporting the new Patterson Hall trades building on the Cranbrook campus, and upgrades to the Fernie campus, $100,000 was designated as a scholarship fund for trades students.

NIC second-year Carpentry Apprenticeship student Theresa Clement’s dream of becoming a carpenter is being made possible, thanks to the support of a generous community.

Junior North Vancouver Island Chefs Association members and NIC Culinary students were awarded the bursary to attend the NVICA-sponsored charcuterie workshop, led by John Van Der Lieck, founder of Oyama Sausage Co., Vancouver.

Past truths are inspiring future approaches to early year education. Pathway to Truth and Reconciliation is a two-day conference scheduled for Nov. 23 and 24 at Okanagan College’s Vernon campus.

Okanagan College’s men’s and women’s basketball teams will tip off their sophomore season later this month and they’ll do so with some new amenities thanks to the handiwork of their fellow students.
