NIC’s Early Childhood Care and Education students and faculty celebrated National Child Day, Nov. 20, by raising awareness of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Langara College students Lucy Morrow and Willy Sin have been selected to participate in the India Connect Scholarship Program that launched on August 9, 2017. The India Connect Program is the first in a series of country-specific scholarship programs that are part of the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada’s (APF Canada) larger Asia Connect Program.

After a busy day prepping food at work, or learning the essentials of professional cooking at Camosun College, Daniel Dunlop is still excited to prepare his own home-cooked meals. “Food is important and I’m one of those people who’ll make everything at home,” he says. “I’ve just grown up with it.”

Twenty-seven deserving Camosun College students have just learned they will each receive a $5,000 Ike Barber Transfer Scholarship recognizing their excellence in academic achievement and community service.

Langara hosted its inaugural GIS Day event Geospatial Matters on November 15, 2017. Presentations by the Department of Geography & Geology and Continuing Studies highlighted the application of geographical information systems (GIS) in teaching and academic research, and focused on the innovative application of technology, data collection, geospatial information visualization, and thought leadership.

The issues surrounding opioid abuse in British Columbia are compounding and the West Kootenay is not immune from the trauma it inflicts on communities. To help combat the crisis, Nelson's Fentanyl Task Force is holding an educational event on November 22 where the public is invited to get more information and ask questions.

Langara College has developed a Sexual Respect Student Ambassador Program to run in conjunction with the Sexual Respect Ambassador Program for employees. The Student Ambassador Program began on November 7, 2017 and will be piloted for one year.

From Nov. 5 to 11, the British Columbia government will recognize the contributions of apprentices and their employers to the province's economy and labour force with its annual Apprenticeship Recognition Week.
